So in the usually sunny Cape Town we have had a fair few cold and rainy days lately. I have looked around me in the office and watched as my comrades have slowly fallen away and had to take sick leave. This led me on a quest to boost my immune system and keep my body as healthy as possible because becoming sick is not on my list of things to do in Cape Town this weekend. This juice is so good for your digestive system, it will help flush out all the toxins as well as give you the vitamin and antioxidant boost your body will need to fight infections off.
- 60 ml water (You can use fresh apple juice or orange juice if you would prefer)
- 2 cored apples (Don’t peel them if you have chosen to blend them instead of juicing, you need the roughage of the skin)
- 1 cored pear (Again, keep the skin on)
- 2 celery stalks
- Fistful of parsley
- 1 cup spinach
- Little piece of ginger (as much as you can handle)
- Juice of a lime or a lemon
- 1 cup cucumber
I call this the Happy Hulk juice because it comes out the most vivid green you have ever seen and it keeps you nice and strong. I know it does not seem too appetising and you may pull a face like the Hulk’s, but I have never enjoyed a green juice as much as this one. The ginger is a great antioxidant but it also gives a great taste to the juice. The spinach can be replaced by pak choy or kale if you do not want such a metallic taste; I use baby spinach so that the end smoothie is not as pulpy. The parsley is a good source of antioxidants, folic acid, vitamin C, and vitamin A and it gives the juice a great fresh taste (If you are pregnant then do not put parsley in!). The apples and pears give it a slight sweet taste so that you don’t feel like you are drinking cold vegetable soup.
This is such a great boost for the day and helps regulate your digestive system. It is so important to keep healthy especially in winter and looking after your body is the first step in getting there!
